Modern Science is Limited by the Laws of Mathematics
In the early part of the 20th century, physicists were busily exploring the micro and macro mysteries of our universe. At the same time, mathematicians sought to prove that all mathematical truth could be formally established. Their goal was to prove that there was no mathematical truth that was beyond their grasp. Could the human mind really build a tower into the highest heavens of truth? (Isa 55:8,9, Ro 11:33)
In 1927, Werner Heisenberg introduced the "uncertainty principle", showing that it is impossible to determine the exact speed and position of an object at a given point in time. The very act of measuring would, itself, interfere with the object being investigated. Scientific observation was thus shown to be inherently confined to the realm of probability and statistics, rather than exact certitude.
In 1931, the mathematician Kurt Gödel proved an amazing theorem, called the "Incompleteness Theorem". This thereom shows that the scientific search for truth is fundamentally limited. To understand and appreciate the meaning of this theorem, we must first review some basic concepts.
All science is based on mathematics. God created the universe with a mathematically governed order (aka natural law). The movement of the planets, the interaction of chemicals, the shape of ocean waves, the sounds we hear, and the colors we see are all physical manifestations that obey God's intricate mathematical relationships.
Every formal science is expressed as a set of definitions, axioms, and theorems. An axiom is a basic truth that seems obvious, but that cannot be proven to be true. A theorem is a mathematical statement that has been proven to be true by making logical deductions from the axioms or from other theorems that have already been proven to be true.
"GÖDEL'S THEOREM, a theorem proved in 1931 by the mathematician Kurt Gödel which is often said to have far-reaching implications for philosophy, especially epistemology. In effect he proved that for any formal system adequate to number theory, there exists a true formula expressible in the system which cannot be proved within the system. Hence, at least for mathematics, no formal deductive system (axiomatic system) can hope to encompass all the true statements of mathematics. The implication seems to be that we can never hope to systematize the whole of human knowledge within an axiomatic system--the paradigm or perfect systematization of knowledge according to many philosophers."

Note: The word "epistemology" is the branch of philosophy that deals with knowledge.
It is not surprising that God made a universe where only He knows all truth. He gave us science as a useful tool to help us live. He never intended it to take His place. Absolute truth can only be revealed by God; He is the only being Who knows everything.
